Phono Preamplifiers
Phono preamplifiers provide the correct amplification and equalisation for vinyl playback. Many turntables, particularly more affordable models, and integrated amplifiers already include a phono stage or provide a slot for an optional module. For the best experience, a dedicated external phono preamplifier is often the preferred solution. It offers its own power supply and adjustable gain and loading, especially useful for high-quality MC cartridges.

MM, MC and phono preamplifier settings
The preamplifier must support the cartridge type and output level. MM and MC cartridges can require different gain and loading, so follow the cartridge manufacturer's recommendations. Check connectors, the grounding terminal and connection to an amplifier's line input. If the turntable offers a preamplified output, follow its switch settings and instructions.
