Subwoofer Cables
Subwoofer cables come with several termination options. The most common is a mono subwoofer cable, suitable for both home cinema and stereo systems. A Y cable is another option, with a single RCA connector at the amplifier or AV receiver end and two RCA connectors at the subwoofer end. Stereo-to-stereo cables are less common and used for more specialised connections. Subwoofer cables are available with RCA or XLR connectors. XLR connections are often used over longer distances, but check that both the amplifier and subwoofer have suitable XLR connections.

RCA, XLR and Y subwoofer connections
Check your amplifier or AV receiver's output and the subwoofer input recommended by its manufacturer. An LFE connection often uses a single RCA cable; choose a Y splitter only when appropriate for the setup. XLR requires matching connections on both devices. A signal cable does not replace the speaker cable required by a passive subwoofer.
